  1. I need some help here. A friend of a friend is selling a caad9 for $950 or a caad8 for $1550. Is the extra cash worth spending for the better components?.

    Descriptions for each bike follow:

CAAD9: Bike conditions is used with about 500 miles and a minor cosmetic defect on the top tube.

    Cannondale CAAD 9 Frame
    Full Carbon Slice Fork
    Cannondale Fire Stem
    Alloy Bar
    Shimano 105 (9spd) shifters
    Shimano Ultegra Rear Derailure
    Shimano 105 Front Derailure
    FSA Carbon K Force Crank
    Carbon Seat post
    Starlite AL wheelset

The Caad8 is going for $1550

CAAD 8 Full Ultegra 10 speed with a carbon fork and seatpost and mavic kysirum equipe wheels for $1550. The color of the bike is red and black.

Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks

You did not say how many miles the Caad 8 has but I'm assuming they are both comparable miles.
I tested the Caad 9 for a long time (full ultegra, 10 speed). i almost bought it... in the end i decided it was a little too aggressive for me (it was only available in a standard double). Very stiff, responsive ride. At the time (About 1 year ago) the Caad 9's were more expensive than the Caad 8. Depending on the kind of riding you do, and assuming you've ridden both bikes and can afford the difference in price...I'd go for the Caad 8 (the wheels are probably an extra $400-500, the ultegra front is probably another $50 the 10 speed vs 9 speed maybe $50) check also ebay for comparable sales of used bikes...

Well...I presently own a caad 9...nice, light, stiff and aggressive. You will find that the caad 8 has similar if not the same geometery. Prior to the caad 9, I rode a caad 7 and before that a caad 5...all with a full carbon fork. Honestly...they felt the same to me...just a little lighter as the caad's went up.

As far as which is the better deal....I would have to agree with rparedes vbmenu_register("postmenu_3674867", true); and say the caad 8 is a better deal based on componets. The 9 has a "cosmetic defect" on the top tube? The clear is chiping fine....a dent is not considered cosmetic untill it is full check out by a cannondale dealer and demend fine. Hey....when your sick of the caad 8....cannondale has a great upgrade policy were you trade up your old frame and some $$$ for a new model. Some thing to chew on.....

    My 2cents

  4. Thanks for your imput guys it has helped me make my decision. I think I will go for the caad 8 as I too agree it is a better deal. I just wasn't sure if the caad9 would have been a better choice because its a later model frame.

Thanks again and have a Happy and Safe New Year!!
