  1. Hi, I've been following the messages about the silver fox bike,
because I was thinking of getting that one, but it seems like a bad
idea. I was delighted by it having a shifter system wich is no
twistshift (I don't like that, and don't know if is possible to get
other kind with my budget) I have up to 200 pounds to get my first
bike, mainly for commuter purposes. I've been looking at
    http://www.evanscycles.com/dept.jsp?dept_id=1001&subdept_id=1205 where
    they have bargains.

    I would appreciate comments!!!

    Thanks,

    The Ridgeback Speed
    (http://www.ridgeback.co.uk/bikes/2004/bike.asp?seriesid=21&index=2)
strikes me as a good general purpose commuter at £200. You don't need
to budget any extra for racks and mudguards so you can carry stuff on
the bike itself and not get soaked in spray if the road is wet.

It also has EZFire shifters, which are trigger-pull type rather than
    twist grip IIRC.

No nonsense bike where the whole budget gets spent on useful stuff.
    Worth a look, I think.

    Pete.

A bike in that price bracket I've been very impressed with recently is
the Claud Butler Classic - a very nicely made and well equipped bike
    for the money: <URL:http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=4611>
