I went to my lbs (LaBicicleta in Toronto). They have a very good rep. I am looking for a higher end racing rig...a Litespeed or a Specialized Roubaix comp or a Kuota Kharma (any suggestions are welcomed!).
The salesman told me that fit is everything (which everyone agrees to). He said come back with shorts and my shoes and he will spend 1/2 hr fitting me. He said after that, only one or 2 bikes will be appropriate for me!
He also said that this is why they don't do bike testing with customer...that if the fit is right the bike will feel right. But who buys a bike without riding it first (esp at $3000!)?
What does everyone think?
By the way, I am 6', 175lb and want to do recreational riding to stay in shape. I am 50 years old and that's why I want carbon fibre or titanium...for the comfort.
thank

The LBS guy discouraged you from test-riding the bikes? That's not right. He is right to emphasise the importance of fit, definitely, but like you say, you don't want to drop a large sum of money on a bike without riding it. Fit is important but it's not everything.
