  1. Hi guys,

I might be buying a second hand carbon road bike soon, and wanted some tips for checking out problems with the frame apart from obvious cracks etc.

I'll be asking the owner if its been crashed and looking for big scratches in the frame and trying to notice things like it has 1 new/1 old rim to indicate a replacement etc... but has anyone got any advice for buying a carbon bike and trying to identify a dodgy frame?

    Thanks.

  2. Can you really rely on sellers' words 100%?

Given that CF can hide delamination or other problems until the moment it snaps, the best bet would probably be to get a frame that has lifetime warranty and confirm with the manufacturer and seller that this warranty is transferrable. Otherwise you can use ultrasound or other high tech equipment from the aircraft maintenance industry to confirm CF integrity. But gosh, that's way over the top for most mortals.
