  1. The daily check revealed a significant bulge mostly on the rolling
surface of my front tire (cheapy 700x38c whose brand has faded into
illegibility), the bulge being about two inches long and changing the
outer radius by about 5mm. Inside the diagonal strands seem to be
unbonding. So it's been replaced with a spiffy new Schwalbe Marathon,
which is the proverbial canine's reproductive organs.

But I'm curious: is this simply a function of running overpressure? (My
bad, running a 50 psi max tire at 65 psi...). Or damage from potholes?
    Or just a bad tire?

Probably either a pothole or a stone, which has snapped some of the
cords in the tread area. This can happen to any kind of tyre, cheap
    or not.

88% of helmet statistics are made up, 65% of them at Washington University

I'd say a stone or pothole damage. Even cheap tyres seem reasonably well
put together these days. And expenxive tyres can fail just as easily .. 😉
