if not does anyone know if I can get a really cheap one from anywhere in england?

There must be a Craigs List equivalent, or possibly try eBay. An adult with a credit card would need to purchase for you but I have seen cases of three and four hundred dollar trainers going for as little as one hundred in the US only slighly used. Have occasionally seen older model trainers going for $25-50 in some places.
The truth is many people get caught up in the idea of cycling and buy all the goodies only to discover a fair amount of hard work is involved... should be no different in the UK. Just keep scanning the classified adverts and you are likely to find something sooner or later.
