Broken Shifter? (Tiagra 9-Speed)

GP-<< While riding the trainer the other day I noticed that my rear shifter did seem to work right.
When downshifting (to bigger cog) the lever just moved and didn't move the derailleur. Kind of like
it was missing the teeth inside or something. This was getting kind of annoying. I thought it might
be gunked up so I shot it with some WD-40 to clean it out. Now it doesn't shift the other way.

It is a Shimano Tiagra 9-speed. It is 2 seasons old but that doesn't seem to be that old. Any
ideas? I might have to get a new one. I suppose that means new cables too right?

I used my $100 x-mas gift card at the LBS and bought a new one. I brought it in to them and they
said, there's not much you can do with this. They said, "We'll flush it out" and I told them
don't bother. Then they said you will have to get a new one. I ordered just the right one for
109.99. Oh well. I really thought that $100 was going to be singlespeed chains, rings, and
freewheels for the next year or so. I thought I might squeak some bar tape out of that $100 too
but now it is just a shifter.

Oh well. I can't afford to do the Campy Ergo/derailleur upgrade now. That would have been $100 more
and my Jeep needs a radiator.
