Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the best way to repair a broken presta valve stem? Should I replace the tube? Or would a presta valve adapter work? Any help would be appreciated.

Buy a new tube.

You will need to replace the tube
If you don't keep any spares about the place, consider making an investment in a small stock. They are cheap enough.
