  1. Given I lost about 35 pounds or so in the past year after I started
eating to control my blood sugar, basically I was just happy with
weight loss as a side effect, and glad if I managed to gain anything
back. I hadn't been losing any more in the past three months, so I
figured, "well, I guess this is all I am going to lose."

I stayed with LC because, well, it keeps me from having my
    pass-out-on-the-floor-in-a-cold-sweat attacks.

Recently I was laid up for about two days, and during that time I
lived off of canned soup which is pretty carby stuff, and then went
back to my usual LC diet after I was on the mend.

Put my size 12 pants on today, and noticed they were fitting a bit
    looser.

That's so weird - it always seems like I lose a chunk of weight
whenever I go back to LC after going off-plan occasionally for two
days. Again, I'm low-carb for health (not weight) reasons, but still,
it makes me think there might be something to the cyclic ketogenic
    thing?

Congrats - feels great to break a stall! I did the same thing, I broke a
stall after 2 weeks vacation where I was not nearly as LC as normal. I just
figured that I would probably put on a little weight during vacation, then
take some time to drop it again. After I started up with my normal LC
again, I had a nice 4 lb woosh. That was my first ever woosh!

I don't think I'll ever do this intentionally, but it worked out nicely.
Weight has stayed off, too. I don't understand why this worked as it did.

I caught a bad cold recently. In the first few days of the cold, I lost
    about 5 pounds.

After the cold was gone, the weight went back to the pre-cold wieght.

Maybe it was just lack of eating during the cold and weight drop
following from that. Maybe the constant nasal draining lowered my
retained fluid levels by a few pounds.

However, the cold wasn't worth the weight loss, even if it had been more
    permanent.

It sounds awful to some people, but when I'm sick (unless it's
something tummy oriented), I force-feed myself. I intentionally ate
carbier food (canned beef stew for example) hoping it would stimulate
my appetite. My appetite remained at "normal", as in, still only
wanted three small meals a day.

MAKING myself eat when I'm sick, really helps me get well faster, I
find - assuming I *can* eat. Black pepper is God's gift to food when
    you've got a cold...

  5. You might experiment with higher calories, rather than higher carbs, when
    ill.
