What's the go with this? Just bought a new Giant XTC and would like to know about the break in procedures, the MHP disc brakes on them (apparantly a copy of Hope C2s) howl a little if I crank the cylinder pressure up to move the pads closer to the disc, will this go away in time?
Disk brakes can tend to squeal if not adjusted properly or if the pads glaze up.
If you have been riding the bike already then you may need to take the pads out and sandpaper them lightly before breaking the pads in properly.
To break them in follow this very simply procedure
1. Find a really really really long steepish hill with a decent road.
2. From the top start pedalling as fast as you can down it then hold on the brakes once you get up to speed and keep pedalling as hard as you can.
3. repeat
your brakes should be broken in.
This was the advice given to me by a bike store that specialises in downhill and freeride and so far i've used it to sort out squeaky discs on two bikes
