Last month, I lost my entire cycling accessory kit, so I'm currently looking to restock. In particular, I want to get some brake pads for my cantilever brakes. Now the brake pads that my bike has those kind of pads that you can remove from the actual metal holders that themselves are attached to the bicycle frame, but I can't easily tell which make they are. Will it matter if I get any brand of pad to fit these metal holders (i.e. are the pads designed to fit any metal part)?

The brand does not matter but the size will, I'm not sure if there are different sizes as all mine are Shimano and all are the same size. What brand are the brakes, make sure that blocks you get are compatible with the brakes. In Shimano speak they are know as cartridge brake blocks by the way. Generally aftermarket ones are better than the cheese supplied with the brakes. I think mine are Barradine and Aztec at the moment, good enough for me but I seem to have less of a fixation about slowing down than some other cyclists.
