I am replacing my brake pads on the new hydraulic shimano XT brake set and noticed there are various different makes available as well as just the standard shimano ones that fit these brakes.
Wondering if anyone has any recomendations as to which make produce best stopping power / longest wear time?
Also have got a bit of oil on the disk when bleeding does the disk need replacing I have cleaned it with some muckoff and a bit of wire wool which seems to have removed the glazed look.
Isopropyl alchohol is the recommended disc cleaner, However on some of the more stubborn contaminates I have resorted to a four inch angle grinder, and sulfuric acid!
I'd say stay away from the angle grinder. When you bleed your brakes you should get a thing piece of plastic (cut up an AOL cd) and take your pads out before you start to bleed. As far as getting gunk off your rotors, put your wheel on the bike and use alcohol or brakleen (auto parts store) to wet the rotor while you sping the tire and use a green scrubby to scrub the stuff off by pinching the rotor and spinning the wheel.

Unfortunately, Isopropyl Alcohol doesn't clean anything besides dirt. Denatured alcohol is the trick to get rid of the oils and greases that end up there.
