Brake Pad ?

I replaced my worn Avid brake pads with Shimano pads (because that's what the LBS had in stock) and
regret it. Seems like the Shimano pads attract and hold every bit of grit that touches my wheel. And
then uses that grit to grind the sidewalls of my front rim. See if you can find CoolStops or
something similar.

Note that factory-stock SRAM pads also make great rim grindstones. Tektro pads have worked far
better for me than the stock ones.

Amen. I haddn't known the SRAMs were a problem, but not 10 minutes ago a friend stopped by with a
2002 Rocket with the rims deeply scored from the SRAM pads. Less than 1000 miles on the bike.

I install a lot of Shimano V brakes, but I always replace the pads with Kool Stop. I've a small pile
of unused Shimano pads.

This is the 1st I'd heard that the Tectros were OK. They look like the same junk.

The stock SRAM 5.0 pads on my 1999 RANS Wave and the 7.0 pads on my 2000 RANS Rocket both ended up
with embedded debris in them after only a couple of hundred miles. 🙁
