BR Easter ride??

Let me just say this. Riding the reverse route which meant riding up the
steeper hills instead of down was silly. Doing it with the added weight
of MTB's was just stupid. Whose idea was that? My back is soooo sore and
legs have had it (probably from spinnign so hard when I ran out of
gears). Next week the normal route on the road bike will seem so easy
(someone please remind of that at the top of the Warrandyte climb).

it was cool!
saw so much stuff we always zipp past whil going down hills and Im sure someone made them previously down bits much more up for the return journey!
Highlight was the dead-tree made to look like a obilephone tower 😄
Got some lame excuse-SMS before leaving home about no bidons (25min before start mind you!) and then i read elsewhere that there were pancakes involved!! sly dog 😉 😄

oh and that snaking little fast decent down Alma Rd was wicked!
glad I had them 'fatboys' on tho. felt surprisingly fast...

The pancakes were merely a way of tempering the rage brought on by
'mishap morning'. I gotta do one more BR before I vamoose..

I still can't get those Vredestein slicks to seat properly - there's a
bump as they rotate where the tyre is too deep in the rim. Need to bring
out the talc I think.

I on the other hand managed to keep up a lot better than usual -- just
a little slower going up that way, so my legs seemed to get more rest
- doesn't really make sense, but...

And I was not so stuffed when we finished that, I rode to Burwood,
picked up a friend who's just moved there, and showed her the way I
come to work in Hawthorn. Can't work out how to miss that hill on the
top of Toorak road - when I go home, I manage to miss it mostly, but I
don't want to send her down to Chadstone then back up.

I'm now zonked though.

Alma road was lovely. I can see why that might be a little painful
the other way, although maybe that big long uphill might be a little
quicker 🙂 Might have to give it a go sometime.

Yep, running out of gears on downhills was the main problem today.. my MTB
felt like it held up ok for the route.. It'll be making another appearance
when it looks like raining for a BR... Ess and I had some good break aways.
Could feel that extra few Kgs of bike on the hills.

The downhills were fun.. gotta watch the last few corners on Alma Rd, though
they were the most enjoyable. Need to review the gearing on my MTB after
being unable to catch Dutch on the anti-climb from Kangaroo Ground..

Almost home, I had 86kms on the clock, so I thought I'd hit the bulie to get
over 100km for the ride.. opted for a few laps of the crit track as well...
As I was entering the gates, some old dude on a bike was going the other way
and staring me down.. didn't think much of it and kept going (ok, so I
thought 'wtf you looking at old c**nt', but kept that to myself).. I get to
about 100m from the finish line and hear some crackling, looked around for
people walking in the scrub.. nop.. just a small fire.. I keep on riding...
hangon.. a small fire.. that is not right.. I roll around again and by this
time it is pushing up a good deal of smoke.. Call 000 and get the fireys on
their way "no, there is no house number, check your map, see the loop north
east of the bridge on Studly Park Rd?, yes.. in there... and tell them to
bring bolt cutters to get in" 🙂... They rock up about 5mins later, and
with keys!.. they ask me to stick around.. They ask if I saw anything
strange, which I then tell them about the old dude looking a little dodgy...
I take some snaps and head home.. 100.75kms 🙂

few days.. right near the entry gates on the right... looks like 'Old C**nt'
has been at it before..

Stupid GVBR bike. OK, so it was my fault for riding through glass at
some point. The guys stopped at the top of the hill after Kangaroo
ground, and just as I was slowing down, I noticed my back tire
deflating. Found the bit of glass reasonably easily. Replaced tube,
the guys were cooling down, so I hurried up, and didn't take too much
care at reseating the rear wheel, and the brakes were rubbing. The
guys took off, so I adjusted the brake while I was riding. After I
departed everyone at Doncaster, eventually, it occured to me to look
back, and I noticed the wheel was almost touching the left chain stay.
Fixed that, but then the bump every rotation was annoying me - well,
the wheel is showing a bit of canvas (only done ~4000km, hasn't it?),
but it's just that those tires seem just a bit too big for that rim.
When I measure it out with inflated tubes, the tire on that rim only
seems to be 25", and it just doesn't want to sit nicely.

I was proud to make it the long way around this time. How much of
road before and after Doncaster was in that 86km? Subtract that, add
10 to get to Doncaster, ~5 to get to Burwood, then 10 back here. And
then 10 back home tonight. All up, I think I have worked out why I am
a little sleepy.

Next Sunday, I think I will be doing an MTB ride in Belgrave and
stuff. I hope it doesn't involve breakneck road.

Doh, just had a look at the pics and realised the burning part was the
same section I suggested could be burnt out to give us a good view of
the whole crit circuit. They'll be staking my place out now. 🙁 Just as
well I have a good alibi, there's absolutely no way I could have beat
GPLama to the crit loop from Doncaster.
