I had an interesting experience recently. I spent some time in the The Netherlands bicycling. About day 3 I had a revelation - no one here is fat. Their bodies are all trim and toned and all have a similar look. If you don't know already this country has bicycle paths on most roads through the entire country. Nearly everyone bicycles as their major mode of transporation. It's really strange. They are prosperous and can buy cars but they bike instead. Anyway, after three weeks my body started to look like the inhabitants. I have two theories. One is a bit bizzare but here they go:
1. Because I do what the locals do (bike and eat the same foods) I become how they look. It's sort of like my friend who went to England and noticed that people have red checks. After two weeks his checks were red too. That cause is environmental, I believe, not due to activity and diet but you get the point.
2. The bizzare one - that body morphology is contagious. Just like culture (from the smile to language to greetings) and disease this body morphology is actually spread through close contact. I don't know how this could be possible but could it be?
Here's another question: Are people with runner's bodies drawn to running or are other body tpyes converted to the runner's type through years of running? A combination of both?
