It was a great day, for the Kenyans that is. We new englanders took a pounding due to the 70' temp,
when we've were training in a half a foot of snow a week prior. The Kenyans had a distinct advantage
under those conditions, of course we new englanders are [censored] runners anyway. The crowd was as good
as ever, so this made it all worthwhile, and my taxi fare from mile 2 to mile 25 was much cheaper
than last year, and for a change the cabbie even spoke english. I stiffed him on the tip anyways
saying I only brought that much money, then as he was about to drive away and was giving me the
finger, I pulled out my loot and started counting off hundreds so he could see me. I was fortunate
enough to be able to kick a small child in the crowd as I re-entered the race at mile 25 too, so it
was a good day all around. Clyde Boroque

if they used chip time, you could wait behind the starting
line for the masses to dissipate. then you'd have an
advantage with no one getting in your way -

sides have good points, is to remark that in bicycling they
have two separate events: "Time-trialing" and head-to-head
racing. The only way to weed out all the inequities (or
race tactics, to the other side of the issue) is to go to
time-trialing (start the tunners 1 or 2 minutes apart,
etc.). Still, if you have too many time-trialers to start,
they begin to encounter noticeably different temperatures,
wind, etc. -

I just think that it is unfair that if some woman has the
race of her life, yet starts 8 minutes off the front of
the race she won't be able to get any prize money or
recognition for her effort.A marathon is not a time-trial, it´s a runner vs.
runner race.(BTW does anyone know any time-trial run?)
It happens extremely seldom thnt any runner, even in the
masters´categories, who hasn´t qualified to start at the
front actually manages to run a chip time that would´ve
meant a podium finish or prize money - but, okay, when it
does, it´s unfortunate.Yet it would be a much greater unjustice to rob another
runner off the chance of a real, direct fight with the chip-
time runner.Anders

Whether you do it with chip or official its unfair. Part of
the problem for my wife is that her qual time was a year
old, and she has gotten faster since. If she would have
raced six months ago her time would have been better, thus a
better seed. The only TT race I have ever done outside of biking is the
Memphis in May Triathlon where they start each swimmer 3
seconds apart. Its pretty cool.Joe
