I've got a pair of Meindl Borneo boots, now a few days under a year
old. They've been very comfortable, and I'm pleased with them. But
the leather looks as though it's splitting, on both boots, for about a
1 - 2 inch section level with the top of the rand and near the ball of my
foot (i.e. the inside edge of the toe).
I've taken them back to the retailer and been assured that it's simply
the location where the leather had been scraped to ensure the rand is
glued firmly, and if I'm concerned I can just put some more glue on
it.
However (and leaving aside the difficulty of gluing to a waxed boot),
I'm not convinced. The gap appears to be going into the depth of the
leather, rather than between upper and sole. Unless it's just the
thickness of the glue itself that's cracked, and not the leather
below it - that would be fine.
Does this sound like a fault, or normal wear ? I haven't owned enough
pairs of boots to recognise how they fail.
Unfortunately, the guarantee runs out in a few day's time and I'll
be on a walking holday then - so I don't have much time left (and
certainly not enough time to get used to a replacement pair).
