I popped on my normal Saturday ride. In the first 1 hour and 28 minutes of the ride my heart rate was above 90% for 58 minutes even though I was going slower than ever. What happened? What now? I had to be sagged off the course.

What was the weather like?
Had difficulty myself this past weekend with a dewpoint of 74 and temp in high- 80's. Could not breath and when I hit open road in beating sun, my heart rate wouldn't stay down. I'm a cold weather person and have always struggled with high humidity and temps. More so this year as my mileage (1,500) is way down from normal and I did little conditioning in the off season due to work. Made it through my normal Sunday group ride but it hurt.
If not weather, how did you sleep the night before. Party hard - too much alcohol in system and not well hydrated? Has your heart rate returned to normal resting rate? Any residual effects - dizziness, weakness, etc? If so, maybe time to see your doc.
Or, sometimes we all have an off day ...

Dehydration or improper hydration (whichever phrasing you prefer) could have been causal ...The circumstances which sitzmark described could have contributed to what you experienced.

The dewpoint was 62 which was high for the California inland empire, the temp was in the 80s. It was likely dehydration and or overheating, but I'm getting checked out.
