Bmc Sizing

I'm 1-2cm shorter and have tried a 49cm and it's too small. A medium SSX which is like a 53cm SLT01 felt about right. The thing thing is, you want enough top tube length and on a SLC01 a 53cm is about right for me. But if you want the large drops between the seat/seatpost and your drop bars a 51cm would be an option.

Your inseam and height (I had to translate to non-standard terms - 5'8" and 33"😉 indicate you have long legs for your height. On the 53 you might have felt the bars to be far away (is this what you mean by "big"? i.e. not the bike felt too tall). On a 51 I think the bike would have a very high stem position unless you feel comfortable with extremely low bars. Your level of experience on the bike will also play a factor in fit.

I only wish I could be looking at a BMC too!

We are pretty close in size. I'm 177.5cm with a 83.5cm inseam and was professionally fit by a serrotta/specialized trained professional. I own a 53cm SLC01 with a 110mm Zipp stem (turned flat) and require 4cm stack between the head tube & stem. I could flip the stem to reduce the stack height but it just looks ridiculous.

This translates to a 2cm drop between the seat and the bars. If you went with a 51cm, the head tube is 1.8cm shorter thus the drop between the seat and bars would be roughly 4cm or greater. I'm not sure how flexible you are but to me that would be uncomfortable for any great deal of time.

As for the bke itself, its unbelievable. Last year i rode an Orbea Opal, great bike but soft front end for crits. This year i wanted a bike that could do it all. In the end it was between a Time VXRS & the BMC; i choose the BMC. Although the Time is slightly more foregiving, the BMC is plenty smooth for 4-6hr rides, light enough for climbing and stiff enough for sprinting. Its an unbelievable ride you wont be worry.

No i'm not very flexible at all. I actually ride with a 90mm stem on my current bike which is a medium Giant TCR (viritual Top Tube length of 550 which is the same as the 53 cm BMC virtual top tube length).

I tried the BMC with a 90mm stem and i felt really stretched out on it. I'm a bit reluctant to go under 90mm and thought maybe the smaller frame would be the better idea, but given what you said about the head tube maybe that's not the way to go.
