  1. yikes my chain snapped yesterday I was only going 15mph or so up a
gravel path.. it snapped on a power stroke and I was thrown over the
bars some how, and have a nasty bit of gravel rash on my leg ! I took
out a link and washed off the blood ! Just before then I was in a near
miss with a wheel barrow.. He suddenly decided to cross the road and
the front disk brake had me doing an endo.. I was amazed at the amount
of stopping power. I really need to get on and fix my rear break I
think ! Then to top off a ' blighted' days cycling I got a puncture
and realised that the front tyre has several large holes in it and is
perished ( although the tread looks ok from a distance!). I had to re-
inforce it with a handy crisp packet before continuing. It seems
tonight I will be mostly catching up on mountain bike maintenance !

Makes you wonder whether it's worth carrying a spare chain on the
commute or not? Could just carry a chain-tool, but I think that'd be
a big ask in the dark.

    Keep your bikes well maintained.

In 40 years and well over a hundred thousand miles cycling, I've yet to
break a chain or even a spoke. I carry a chain tool when mountain biking
    but not for road biking.

Morning had broken, and we had run out of gas for the welding torch.
