Not 100% this is the right place to post this, so please feel free to move it. I'm looking for some advice about biking in Central Park during the weekend. I'm looking for two things:
I'll need to get to Central Park by Car with my bikes so I'm looking for parking ideas or is it easier just to rent bikes near the park. I'd prefer to have my own bike.
Also is it very limited for bikes on the weekend or can you pretty much ride anyway. I'll be coming with the family.
Hey LI Biker, Getting parking will be the BIGGEST challenge. IF you have to drive in, then bringing your own bike certainly makes the most sense. Finding FREE parking is always a challenge but it is possible if you are willing to walk (wait you have your bike so no big deal, right!?). Spots are easier to come by the further away from the park and midtown you go. I always gravitated to the upper east side near 1st, 2nd, 3rd Avenues since it seems less busy - it is a hike but since you have the bike just ride on over! Now once you get to Central Park be prepared for the bike version of city traffic - very busy and watch for clueless pedestrians. The main roadways are pretty good for bikes (except the crosstown roads that have all the car traffic). hth
