You're going to have a blast. There will be some truck traffic but the
shoulder should be good. Have fun riding through some spectacular
country.

Wave on the way through Fraser (and stop for coffee at Totally Wired
Cyclery/Rocky Mountain Roastery).

It is a nice easy ride as far as road surface goes. 40 has a very wide
breakdown lane for most of the trip. The only exception is Red Dirt
hill, just south of Granby. Plan on crossing over and riding on the
other side of the highway until you get to the YMCA camp at the top
(it is much safer than dealing with the giant SUVs with 5th wheels).
You'll likely have a lot of company, as there are many bike tours that
use this route. The pass... well, it is the pass. Not as bad as it
looks, and a lot of fun to ride down. Quite a rush to see the
continental divide sign at the top.
