Bike Weight Help!?

well there are frames that are more robust than others,MTB frames are genrally speaking more heavy duty than a roadbike frames,you have choices in frame materials,and their are components that are tougher than others,I have a friend who is on the heavy side and has broken two top brand road frames,he now uses a mountain bike but he has damaged a couple of rims doing the single track.If you just want to get out there and ride a MTB is probably your best bet.
If you are looking at racing well go talk to the pro's at the LBS.

What kind of riding do you want to do? There is a lot more to finding the right bike than wheel diameter. Mountain bikes and some hybrids, comfort bikes, and cruisers typically have 26" wheels. Road bikes and most hybrids typically have 700cm wheels. Once you decide what type of riding you plan to do, the wheel size will sort itself out.

Frame size, spoke count, and tire width are other important factors. I am 6"0" and was 265 pounds when I bought my bike. I am down to 210 pounds now. Even at 265 pounds, almost any wheels with 32 or more spokes are fine. I would stay away from the light weight, low spoke count racing wheels until I get below 180 pounds. I have a Specialized Crossroads Elite (700 cm x 38 mm wheels with 32 spokes) and a large (18.5"😉 frame. It has held up well for me, despite my weight.

I ride in groups twice a week where I am the largest rider and the only one on a hybrid. I figure I am working twice as hard to keep up with the group, but I manage. When I get to 180 pounds, I will get a road bike and keep the hybrid for light off-road use. We have some well maintained trails that do not require a mountain bike, but I would not ride on any tires less than 32 mm in width.
