I was out riding my Marin Rocky Ridge towards Sandy hills this evening, when there was a bit of a twang, then alot of graunching as the back wheel suddenly locked!
It looks like a couple of spokes have broken, got caught in the chain or the cassette, snapping the replaceable rear mech hanger. The damage appears to be restricted to the broken spokes and rear mech hanger but there is also cosmetic damage to the frame and rear mech.
The bike was bought new in August this year from ATB sales, the importers and has only covered 490 miles.
My question to you all is: Are broken spokes normally covered by a new bike warranty and can I expect the subsequent damage and the cosmetic damage to be covered as well?
TIA John. p.s. Once sorted, how do I stop this happening again?
You can give it a shot - speak to ATB - but I would be surprised if it were covered.
Way to stop it happening again is to check them regularly! Just go round the wheels checking that the spokes are taut, and that rims are true.
I had a spoke snap on the way to work with no warning. Bit of a ballache, but it happens...

I took the bike into Michael Cycles in Bedford (a Marin dealer) and they spoke to ATB on my behalf. They replaced the mech hanger, chain and the broken spokes and trued the wheel.
This was alll done under warranty and I picked the bike up this afternoon, 36 hours later. Brilliant service by both ATB and Michaels cycles I reckon.
