bike to work week...

Likewise. Except that I'm working in London this week, so
I've been making the effort to take my bike on the train and
getting off a couple of stops early on the way home (only
partly because it's bike week).

I tried a completely new route last night, which is always
exciting. I had planned it carefully to be quite flat but I
missed a turning (well, I spotted the turning but it wasn't
signposted as expected so I didn't have the confidence to
take it...) and consequently added a nice climb - fairly
short and not too steep but definitely a climb - and an
extra 2-3 miles to my ride. At the top, I came round a
corner and was greeted with a wonderful view of my home town
from an angle I'd never seen it before. It really made my
day, I can tell you. Coming back down the other side of the
hill through the woods was also very pleasant and by the
time I got home I'd clocked up a very enjoyable 15 miles.

Honestly I've tried. But...
Monday was a day off.
Tuesday broke my time record to the station and did awfully well on the way back. Even went the 'tough' hilly route.
Wednesday I won't get back home in time to get Daisy to the vet if I use the bike.
Thursday I won't get back in time to see Engerlund start the great escape.
Friday is a toughie - if I use the bike I will have to stay all day, if I use the car I can be home for 4pm.

Likewise. I've promised myself at least half an hour every
day on the trike anyway, as my "ride to work", even if it
isn't at the beginning of the work day.

Today it even *is* work (for certain values thereof) as I'm
taking a new demo model trike on her shakedown cruise. Or,
since it's me doing it, shakedown trundle....

I'm a caretaker so live 'on-site' .. The heads at the two
schools I care for have suggested I use my bike if I want,
and that they'd like me to take some children out, make a
mock 'roadway system' and generally get the kids involved in
cycling. Sort of a cycling proficiency, and hopefully also
involving the local LEA Road Safety initiatives with regards
to costs etc.

One of the heads, a non-cyclist, mentioned helmets and
insurance, the other, a cyclist herself, said 'bugger
helmets, teach 'em well enough and they don't need
them .. 😉

Enlightening though when they enquired about any extra
insurance cover that may be required it was suggested I
should wear a helmet, as the adult, and that the kids
didn't necessarily need to wear them. This point is being
clarified .. 😉
