  1. Hey there.

I'm looking to purchase a 04 Specialized Stumpjumper and need advice on sizing. I'm 6'2" and am
    borderline Large and Extra Large.

    Which size should I ride?

    Thanks,

Take each for a test ride and see what feels better.

  3. Try both sizes and then make up your own mind.

    Fire up MTB 03

Had a similar problem last year. I am 6' with a 34 inch inseam. Tested out a medium Titus. It felt a
little small, but gave a fantastic ride. So, I specially ordered a large. (The dealer didn't tell me
that I could have had one custom built to my size. I found this out months later.) When it came in,
it felt a little large, but fit-wise it was better than the medium. Ride-wise it wasn't as great,
but felt a medium was too small for me. A few months went by and I was at the shop again. They had
another medium, so I tested it out. It felt perfect. Why the difference? I suspect they were set up
differently, probably a different stem size or seat position?

What I notice about the larger bike is that it weighs more and is not as maneuverable as the smaller
bike. Don't get me wrong. I'm pretty happy with this bike. It's just that I most likely would have
gone with a custom or smaller bike if I could do it again.

On the other hand, I had a bike that was too small for me years ago. It was a rigid. Always had
backaches after every ride. Don't know it was the lack of suspension or the small fit that caused
the problem. Maybe a little bit of both.

To be honest with you I don't know much about bikes. But, I suspect that if you could try various
stems on the smaller bike you could probably get a good fit. This might take considerable time and
effort. I doubt a dealer would like to go through this effort unless you were a seriously going to
buy the bike. Whatever you do follow everyone else's advice and buy the one that fits best for you.
