I have been using a different route home for the last week, and suddenly there is a newly striped
bike lane just painted yesterday. However, it is not a lane. They painted the normal shoulder stripe
on a recently resurfaced two-lane road (Brainard Rd. between Cannon and Miles for the locals), and
then put bike lane pictures in the shoulder. It gets even better since the cover plate on the seam
for the bridge over the highway is all ripped up on the shoulder, I mean bike lane. At least Solon
does not have a mandatory side path law. I hope it doesn't give Orange Village on the next block any
stupid ideas - they have a really nasty side path law. Has anyone else seen a road with bike lane
markers in the normal, tiny shoulder?
On a positive note, though, it seems that the "smart" traffic signal at the next intersection
(Brainard & Miles) now seems to detect bikes. Before yesterday it would never change for a bike, and
unless a car came to wait you had to go on red where you could not really tell that the intersecting
traffic was totally clear because of a hill. I will check it out again today.
