    Hi Guys

    First of all, I'm new to this forum, but the advice given and the discussion entered into seems genuine. So can I please have some advice on the following:

    I recently sold my old Shogun road bike and I am now looking for something in Aluminium with middle level componentry (ie: 105?) and carbon fork. There are about 15-20 different brands with models in the $1.5k bracket. I plan to use this bike to travel to and from work (once a fortnight - 40km) and ride with friends (once a forthnight 100km).

    So what should I choose?

    A 2nd hand Cannondale R600 (2000) in perfect nic for $1400 or
    A Cervelo Soloist for approx $1800 or
    Something else??

    Cannondale recently had financial problems with their motorbike division - just make sure they are
    doing ok before you buy. Actually, I just noticed you said 2nd-hand - in which case it probably does
    not matter.

    100percentcycles.com.auviewspecials.cfm has the Soloist for $2k so your price seems
    ok if new.

    Those bikes are in the expensive end of the market though, you could save a bit of money for
    essentially the same thing if you look at Giant, Avanti, Peugeot, (Trek's are a little on the
    expensive side too, but an option), Merida (cheaper end of the market), etc...

    If you are only riding 140k/fortnight you could really do it on just about anything. I'd take some
    bikes for as long a test ride as possible and rate their comfort and performance if that's an issue
    for you. Make sure you get the right size.
