Bike ID?

It is a bicycle frame manufactured for Performance Bicycle. They used to carry their own brand of bicycle seven or eight years ago but now they call their house brand Scattante. They do carry a large selection of Dorel Industries bicycles and I beleive that they source their house brands from Dorel.

They only carry one frame that is still branded Performance but it is not the frame that you have.

To me it appears to have been a road frame that was converted from a drop handle bar to a flat flat bar. You may have a mostly Shimano 600 drivetrain but your shifters are Alivio, the brake handles are Forte (Performance house brand) as is the handle bar. The front brake caliper does not appear to be a Shimano 600 either. I think that is a Performance Caliper that they used to sell when they were branding more of their merchandise with their name. It does have a Shimano look to it though, so they might have been sourcing thier components through Shimano then.

You might get more information if you contact Performance and give them the Serial Number of the frame.

I was thinking of converting handle bar back into a drop handle bar and maybe updating a few of the Shimano parts. Do you have any recommendations?

If you are going to change to drop handlebars, you are going to need to get different brake levers and you will probably want new shifters. What speed is it? If you have 7 or less cogs on rear cassette, you will need to use down tube shifters. If you eight or more, you can sometimes find STI shifter/brake levers on eBay. What other parts are you wanting to change? It gets expensive when you start upgrading a component here and a component there because a lot of the newer components are not cross compatible with the older components. Also, separate components are not inexpensive. They are a lot less expensive when you purchase them as part of a new bike than if you try to purchase them separately.

It's an 8 speed bike and I won't be upgrading anything else other than the handle bar and the shifters/brakes seeing how it's a pretty decent bike given it's age.
