I will be buying a better, possibly racing worthy, bike sometime in about he next year. But I'm worried that if I buy one and do start racing with it, then what happens when disc brakes are introduced in racing events? Will it be obsolete?

I doubt it... But if your racing Scene over there is similar with the one here expect to see a lot of over weight Pozers on disko brakes...
Of course the pro level is probably having some too.
Btw, did they used disk brakes on the Tour this year? I didnt watch it. 😄
