  1. Looking at upgarding to a new bike.
After any Comments that may be helpful?

I ride a road bike and do about 130km to 200 km per week mainly on
roads (30-100Km rides) but do some commuting where part is on a sealed
bike track (along Yarra). I am 85kg and try to ride fairly quickly.

Been searching for good road bikes with Ultegra group sets (maybe
105's) that can be farily fast but strong enough to last the
distances. As I do a bit of commuting I dont want to lash out on an
top line/expensive bike that may suffer the mixed travel and be a
    target for theives.

Been looking in LBS's and over the net.
    Around $1800 - 2000
    Am currently considering:
    - CYTEK Gervasio 2004
    - Lemond Alpe D'Huez 2004

Any comments or other good options please?

You can do what I did - trash the old 8s RSX groupset with 9s Ultegra. An upgrade kit costs around $1200 and you know the new bike will fit you! You can change wheels and so on at your leisure.

I'm happy enough to mix it up in club races and commute on the same 6-yo mid-range Giant frame...

On the posing side, there is clearly a compromise - I can't compete with the unobtanium/Record/DA crowd, but I can't hang out with the steel-lugged/downtube shifter/retrogrouch crowd either.

    Oh well.

Even better, you could spend the dough on a Campy Daytona groupset, then down the track treat yourself to a new frame. I did that with my old red Tange bike. First step was a Chorus upgrade (which looked a bit odd on a late '80's crappy steel frame, then a while later sprung for a Colnago frame.

Now I can pose with any of 'em, especially given that the Colnago is now old and suitably beat up.

    Regards,

    Suzy

    Meh.. posing..
As long as you can pass them all..
you've got nothing to worry about ;-)

I want barcons on the drops for my next
road bike... sort of in-between the two
    crowds.

The Lemond is a good choice in that range, others include...
    - Gitane Mach 2200 (carbon fork & seat stays, Ultegra, Shimano WHR540 wheelset)
    - Raceline Ultra (Ultegra, carbon fork and seat stays, Shimano WHR540)
    - Giant TCR (Ultegra)
    - GT ZR 1.0 (Ultegra, Ksyrium wheelset)
    - Cannondale R600 (105)
    - Trek 1500 (105/Ultegra)
