Hi everyone!
This is my first post, and I really could use some major help!
I am in the market for a bike, one I can use on relatively mild but unpaved trails as well as on the road and a bike rack for my car (2007 Civic Coupe). I would like to be able to attach a back rack and panniers.
I'm very confused about all the options and have gotten myself mentally spun (pun intended) trying to figure it out. I've surmised a hybrid or mountain bike would be better than a road bike for my purposes, but that's about as far as I've gotten.
I would like a budget friendly bike (<$400 for the bike plus rack and accessories) and am open to getting a used bike, but I have no idea what to look for (quality brands, features, etc.). I stopped by a bike shop yesterday and liked the Trek 3500, but given the price, it was on the very highest end of what I can afford, and I'd like to get some feedback and shop around more before deciding.
I've been digging around my local craigslist and found a few other models of Trek bikes (used) that are in my price range:
Trek 7000
Trek 820 B
Trek 7100
I want to be sure I make the best decision possible so I don't need to replace the bike anytime soon. I plan on riding every weekend (my only days off work) and carrying about 15 lbs of camera and possibly camping gear with me periodically (not every time).
So, my questions are:
1. What should a good bike for my purposes and budget have?
2. What brands and models should I look for?
3. Any suggestions for good truck bike racks to fit suggested bikes?
Any other tips would be very useful!
Thank you in advance!
