Hi everyone, Two friends and I usually go away for 3 days to do some serious cycling (50-60 miles per day, good hills, etc.) in early September. I would like suggestions of where to go within a 2-3 hour drive from northern NJ where we might encounter beautiful scenery, decent places to stay and good restaurants. The one place I was going to look into was the Poconos. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Jerry Holtz

You might look into the Adirondack Mountain area of New York. It is beautiful and has all of the amenities of a tourist mecca in certain areas like Lake George or Ticonderoga, but it is sparsely populated away from those areas. The roads were in good condition the last time that I was there but that was several years ago. It can get pretty hot there in September but the nights are generally cool and pleasant. And there are more good restaurants than you could ever want.

Adirondack Mountain area of New York Is a great place to spend the summer or what ever but i like the Lake Placid area. They have a USA Triathlon there too. Hundreds of miles of ridding, great vistas, not to many cars, great weather, (mostly) I did get caught a few times in a shower. Because of the Tri. lots of other cyclist too. It's on my list of things I would like to do again. Good luck.

You don't even have to leave New Jersey for that. Head to Hunterdon Cty in Central NJ where you will find some of the finest roads for cycling in NJ. You can also cross the Delaware River into PA and ride through Bucks Cty. Bucks has some of the most beautiful farmland and some wonderful rolling hills and rural roads....or youi could head further out to Lancaster Cty, PA. Check into the Lancaster Cycling Club Covered Metric Century in August.....it is a terrific ride.
Cheers,
Brian J.
