2200 maH sounds more like a current AA battery. D cells run up over 7500. (buying less than the
state of the art saves a lot of money by the way).

I got a bunch of the D's and so far the smart chargers seem to have trouble figuring out when about
half of them are fully charged; maybe that will fix itself after a few cycles and they'll shut off
correctly.

The Accupower charger from thomas distributing does all sizes including 9v, and charges batteries
individually (rather than in parallel) which is good. I think D's take about 12 hours to charge.

I prefer the Maha MH-401FS for AA's and AAA's though.

The battery-death mode for cells in series is you leave it on past when the weakest cell dies; then
the weakest cell begins to take a reverse charge from the cells still running and is destroyed. So
you want to match the cells you use, and recharge them all before the weakest one dies.

I have also a CCrane charger with a battery tester and meter readout, which is very handy for
checking what the state of the battery you just charged is. It itself charges in parallel though, if
you do more than one, which means you can wind up with uncharged cells when there's a dirty contact,
so I no longer use it for charging.

Finally get a bottle of Caig DeOxit (brush-on is best) to clean the contacts of the
batteries/charger whenever there's a dirty contact; just a few applications will cover them all
permanently but you do need it pretty quickly.
