Thanks all for your advice. I think it is better to pick up the BNT a bit farther north, f.e. in Nanango. From there to the north the trail looks a bit easier. And as Terry says: I can always give it a try. If it is too tough, there are enough alternitaves.

i've done a lot of travelling through that area over the years, southern to central QLD. Thats all fairly hilly, the main roads are pretty good, with a few tricky bits and a couple of dangerous/steep and windy bits. the side roads can be quite rough. i've not used the BNT, but given the secondary roads, it could be quite slow going. that was 5-10 years ago, so it could have changed. but as always, your millage may vary =)
