I test my BG on Accucheck comfort curve with test strips and my readings are always between 100 - 106 but whenever I go for a lab test the readings are in the 80's . Why is this different ?

Old meter? Bad meter?
I used the same meter for years and it always came in within a few mg/dl of the lab reading. Then very recently it started giving what looked like very flaky readings.
I was told by a Roche (manufacturer) rep on the phone that these meters can stop working correctly at 2.5 years.

It depends on how the blood is collected and when the test is run. If the specimen is collected in a red top non-preserved specimen the red cells can eat up the glucose if there is a delay in testing and if the office draws the blood or a blood drawing station then a delay in getting it to the lab will occur. A gray top tube should be used when testing only for glucose as it has a preservative that keeps glucose stable. The problem is when other testing is done in addition to glucose then the gray-top tube may not be used for such testing so a red-top tube is used. After that there your instrument stability as mentioned.
