  1. Need to find a good windtrainer/erg with accurate power to do testing on for my cycling club. What's out there? What's the best and what's the most reasonably priced if the best is out of our price range. Remember we also have to get it to New Zealand.

    Hamish,

I have used the Tacx I-Magic for the past couple of years. As long as a spin-down test is done, the accuracy is very good. After a warm-up, in the ergo mode with no incline, ramp it up to 25 mph and stop pedaling. The wheel should take 10.0 seconds to stop. Adjust the tension accordingly.

I don't do a spin-down every ride, usually every week or so, and the unit stays accurate. The accuracy is usually within 1 - 2 %. I have rides where the wattage tracks identically across the range.

One thing to note: I have found this accuracy only applicable to the Virtual Reality World. The Video Mode and the Ergo mode are not as accurate. YMMV

BTW I use a Power Tap.

Whats wrong with your PT on a regular trainer. I have a Kurt with a PT and other than all out sprints(wheel slip etc..) It works good.

It's for testing on a large number of riders in our club. My original plan for my power tap was to lend it out to the riders I coach but I am learning too much from using it on my bike.
