best treadmill for marathon-triathlon training?

Well, I'm not training for a marathon by any means, but with the
exception of the Landice (never found one to try in person) I tried all
of the ones you mentioned, though not in the 4-6K range (except for the
Precor) as our budget was in the low $2000s.

We bought the bottom-of-the-line True (about $2400). It was the
quietest treadmill by a fair amount, and *felt* like the sturdiest of
the bunch you mentioned. It's controls weren't our favorite, but they
were good, and easy to use.

I thought the Precor was awful - the deck is higher off the ground than
any of the others, and it sounded like I was running on a drum
(footfalls were VERY loud), and I hated the controls. the controls
shook with my footfalls, so it didn't seem sturdy at all for the price.
I liked the controls of the Life Fitness an awful lot, but it didn't
feel as stury, and I *think* it was the Life Fitness that had a big
problem - it stopped WAYYYY too suddenly when you pressed the stop
button. After I tried it a few times, I realized it was a deal killer,
and crossed it off my list.

I forgot to mention in my previous note, that how much a person likes
an individual treadmill will very quite a lot. So if one of them feels
right to you, then that's the one you should get. They all have good
warranties, I believe. I liked the True the best, hated the Precor,
and the Life Fitness was OK (except for a quirk about stopping to
quickly - if I'm remembering the right brand). Didn't try the Landice.
But if the Precor feels the best to you, and the price is OK, then get
that one.
