i remember a thread on this in September, october i think, but i think it was a pretty personal issue. There were a lot of favourites so i will just give you mine and them im sure other people will agree/disagree. Initially, i used Lance Armstrongs training book. I think its subtitled "7 weeks to success" or something like that. I found it good to get me started and follow a program but after the intial 7 weeks i wanted to create my own program. I am using Joe Friel's "cyclist training bible" at the moment and that is a lot more indepth and is suitable for me now but i am looking for another book to supplement my knowledge.
any ideas?? :p
Joe Friel - Cyclist training bible, and
Ed Burke - Serious cycling
Thanks for the recommendations.
'03 was my first year as a roadie so I just focused on getting in base miles (YTD 1800+). I'm hoping to get 2500 - 3000 in next year but want to train (instead of just ride) so that my endurance and hill climbing improve.

I also picked up the LA training book. Was a little disappointed with all of the really basic "filler" material, but the "7 Weeks" canned programs are pretty interesting if you can get past all the CTS trademarked labels. Also interesting to read some of the background and stats on Lance: his max HR is 201, and that he does his long (4-6 hr) endurance rides at 124-128 bpm, etc.
Also recently got the book by Ed Burke, Serious Cycling. It does offer more background explanations for those of us planning our own training programs. Haven't read the Friel book, so I don't know if Serious Cycling would be a worthwhile supplement to it.
