Can anyone provide some suggestions for good road frames around the $700 range. I have looked at the BMC Streetfire SSX already at $775. Thanks.

You have lots of choices in aluminum. I'd consider a used Litespeed, Merlin, or similar titanium frame for that price range. They last (and look good) forever and good deals can be found for used (or new) ti now with the current carbon craze.
If you want new, I saw that Excel sports is selling Salsa Scandium frames on sale for under $750. You also may find a new cannondale CAAD8 frame for about that or maybe even less. There are also the low priced carbons like Pedal force that are in that price range.
