  1. I have mild hypertension and switched my BP medication from tenormin to benicar. I am stopping the
tenormin mostly because I can never get my heart rate up during a work out.

Are there any special things I need to do when switching from a beta blocker to benicar? Should I
tapper off of the beta blocker? My doc did not discuss this with me?

Also, do anyone know how effective benicar is wrt the beta blocker? My bp prior to medication was
around 150/110, with treatment it has been under control.

Thanks for the help. Robert Kershaw

The abrupt cessation of beta blockers can cause dangerous rebound hypertension.

Comparable effectiveness for controlling blood pressure, ime.

That is significant hypertension. Would suggest you ask your doctor for advice on how to come off
    the atenolol safely.
