Hi folks,
Had a great w/e Drove up early Friday, parked up at Dalwhinnie station, we started walking at 12:00.
We thought it would be nice to stay at Culra as it was windy and raining, but the weather forecast
was good for Saturday. We duly arrived around
16:00 and had the bothy to ourselves..
(Who ever built those new dwellings, lodges or whatever they are along Loch Ericht certainly has
taste and loadsa money.)
The plan then was to head off for Ben Alder early morning with all the gear, but pitch the tent
somewhere further in to the Bealach Dubh so we didn't have to lug it all up the Ben. There was a
delightful spot right under the headwall of the pass on a level grassy platform. The tent was up in
jigtime and we just followed the cascading burn up out of the bealach, across the grassy plateau it
was a bit overcast with some snow patches lying about so views were limited.
Wildlife seen, Ptarmigans were in there autumn patchy plumage and rutting season was well under way
roaring stags from every hillside, some of those protective stags can be quite bold at this time of
year. Oh and we had an encounter with the famous White Garrons and they did seem quite friendly.
Coming back down from the Ben i noticed some aircraft wreckage on the high point of the Bealach Dubh
anyone know anything about this ?
Had to come out on Sunday as my brother was feeling off colour but we still enjoyed the area and we
will be going back.
