I just started learning swimming (absolute newbie). I'm using Total Immersion book as my guide. I have a couple of questions.
When I do drill - kicking on the back with arms along side I always skew to the left. I tried different positions of the head and torso, very slow kick which rules out difference in muscle strength between legs. What else can I try to fix my alignment in the water? When I kick face down I always go straight without any additional correction.
I've been spending on average 2.5 hours daily in the pool and lifeguard warned me that I can develop asthma because of chlorine vapors. (It is indoor pool with a retractible roof which stays open most of the time). Is it inevitable or there are ways to prevent it?
It is possible to develop ankle flexiblity in early 30th? I've been playing regularly soccer for the past 10 years. It seems everybody claims that runners develop "cast ankles" which isnt reversable in the most cases. It seems like making me go backwards on my kicking drills. 🙁

Unless the pool chemistry is very badly wrong. You are unlikely to have problems unless you have asthma anyway.

I was like that 20 years ago. I go reasonably fast now (well, at least forwards) compared with then. It has improved to the extent I can kick the last 2 lengths of a 400 and get ahead of the opposition. I use (small) fins regularly in training, they certainly have helped.
