My current set-up is 7speed down tube shifters with 7speed 105-series rear derailler.
I want to get some bar end shifters for my aero bars and wanted to know which bar end shifters are compatable.
Ultegra 8speed or Dura-Ace 9speed Bar ends?

Ultegra 8speed or Dura-Ace 9speed Bar ends?Neither is fully compatible for 7-speed. But the spacing of 7-speed and 8-speed is very close so the Ultegra 8-speed is a better match than the Dura-ace 9-speed.
However, what I recommend is getting the Dura-ace 9-speed levers along with a 9-speed chain and cassette. Get a lower end cassette where the cogs do not come on carriers and take out one cog and one spacer and put only 8 of the cogs on your 7-speed freehub.

Duno why...7 speed barends can still be found. www.rivbike.com sells the barend adapter pods that allow him to use his downtube shifters with them.If he's got a freewheel,it won't work and it's a hassle to get HG cogs onto a uniglide freehub if tht's what he's got.

Would it work if I put an 8-speed cassette on my freehub and got the 8-speed Ultegra bar ends?

you can't stick an 8 speed casette on your 7 speed freehub,it's too wide.If the hub is hyperglide, you can use a 105 or lower 9 speed casette which has loose cogs, remove a cog and a spacer, then it will fit your hub.Shift it with a 9 spedd shimano shifter.
