  1. I used to eat bananas frequently. However, in the last year or two I've found that after I eat a
banana I get a lot of bloating and gas in my stomach. This goes away after an hour or so. I told my
MD about this but he had no idea what might be causing it. I did a google search and all I can find
is bananas as a _cure_ for rather than a _cause_ of gas! Also, I don't take pain killers frequently
but, the last couple of times I took naproxen sodium (Aleve) I got some gas too.

Has anyone every heard of a condition where bananas cause gas? It's just an inconvenience rather
than a real problem (I now eat apples) but it would be nice to know the root cause of this!

    Thanks,

    Henry

  2. This happens to a fellow I work with. This guy lives on bananas.

Stop eating them after other foods. Fruit should be eaten alone. (don't hide in a closet either)

You probably used to eat them after a meal or a fatty meal Fat delays gastrict emptying and
therefore the banana have the time to fermet in the stomach causing gas You can eat bananas after a
meal of vegetables or with vegetables, you shouldn't eat banana after a fat rich meal Also, cereals
and beans are digested way more more slowly than bananas, so the gastrict emptying is delayed and
fruits, that usually require very little digestion in the stomach, are also digested slowly and then
ferment The ideal is to eat them always in an empty stomach when serum lipemia levels are low and
the stomach is empty for example as breakfast Otherwise you can divide your meals in two sessions
The first one comprised of bananas Then wait 30 or 45 minutes and have the second session comprised
    of your regular meal

Would guess a bacterial infection is the cause of the gas. Insufficient degradation in the upper
part of intestines feed the bacteria later on and they start to use the carbohydrates etc. for fuel
and convert it to different gases. Maybe some antibiotics would help??
