People will put darned near anything in a museum. The fact that it's
on display somewhere does not mean it was a successful design; I've
seen an original 1960 VW Bus engine in a vehicle on display in a
museum, and those were unutterably awful [censored].

Speaking of lookalikes ... my quest for cool fake Chinese things is
nearly complete.

I have come across an aluminum bike which is very carefully covered in
carbon-fiber lookalike sticker of some kind. Very well done. Unlike
the steel(!) mountain bike I saw of similar styling it actually stands
up to not-so-casual visual examination by a bike geek (me). The real
carbon fork gives it away but, even so, I needed to do a plink plink
test to confirm..

Unfortunately, for any of you who might be interested in acquiring
this machine Xidesheng has gone and spoiled the whole effect by using
real Shimano parts on it. They could have at least had the decency to
use Shimalong or Saugino. Alas, I know not of any company that makes
fake brifters.
