This is my first marathon and my training has been very successful but I have run into a problem with burning or pinching pain in my left foot after I put in 10 to 12 miles. I noticed that the pain is located in the ball of my left foot. I went to [censored]'s Sporting Good Store and a computer sensor showed that I put more pressure on the ball of my left foot than on the right. I was running with a pair of New Balances (845 series) and they alleviated much of the pain. But as I put on the miles, the shoe started to breakdown. I just purchased the Asics Gel-Kayano and my left foot is killing me right away. These shoes are a rough ride compared to the New Balances which seemed to support my arches. Has anyone had this problem before and what kind of shoe would help counter my problem? Thanks for the advice.

Throw Morton's Neuroma into google and see if it's match. There is a lot of info on MN but the one of the big causes is shoes to narrow or tied to tight around the toes. Tight shoes keeps your toes from splaying. A good test is to press on the web area between your toes and see if you have pain.
This is a SWAG since you did not give us enough specific info as to where in the "ball of foot."

Doug,
I googled "Morton's Neuroma" and found that I have all of the symptoms for this problem. The pain radiates from the inside part of my left metatarsal and into my big toe then down to the other smaller toes. When I saw the read-out from [censored]'s sporting store, it showed that I applied extra pressure to the bone just before my big toe. I have been dealing with this problem for 2 years now and the type of shoes that I wear affects how long it takes before I feel the burning sensation. Running with Nike shoes, I only last 6 miles but with New Balances, I can go 12 miles. With my new Asics, I went 10 miles and then started to feel the burn. Hopefully this i

See a podiatrist. I thought I had Morton's Neuroma at one point. Turned out to be metatarsalgia- inflammation of the metatarsals. Not as serious as a neuroma.
