  1. Hey guys... I'm looking for some basic tips on balance. I'm a relatively new rider, and even as a kid was never able to ride hands-free. Now that I'm a big fan of road cycling, high speeds and long climbs, I feel like I've become a really strong rider with extremely poor handling skills. Any tips or drills for improvement?

  2. Let's assume you ride a 'normal' geometry road bike that is in reasonable alignment.

Find a downgrade slope that you can coast along easily at about 10-15 MPH. Push off the tops of the bars...sit up and keep your weight back in the saddle,,,and... you're flying! You might want to level the pedals to start with, but it's by no means necessary.

Some bikes do have fast steering properties that make it a little more difficult, but as long as they are capable of tracking a straight line they can be ridden sitting straight up.

    IGNORE IT!

Just go out and coast at relatively low speeds on slopes that will allow you to stay rolling at a constant rate and go have fun. Next thing you know, you'll be blasting across imaginary finish lines at 40 MPH and saluting your thousands of imaginary adoring fans with a V-shaped reach for the heavens salute!

  3. Believe it or not, but cutting out the TV might help here.

Ahhh, brings me back to my college single track design class...

  5. Hands free? Better to keep hands on the handle bars. Its not a cellphone. Cutting out the TV?! I believe that. I think it rots people's brains. Co-ordination and balance; interesting it makes sense. I guess some people are into stunts and thrills. Maybe just riding it would be impressive.
