I've had one for years- I just ignore it and it doesn't bother me. it does get bigger sometimes,
then smaller again.

I had one, but I am no longer a baker and am retired now, does that still count? Or is it a "retired

A Google on "Bakers Cyst" or "Popliteal Cyst" (medical term), will reveal a wealth of information on
diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Generally, the cyst is the result of some pre-existing injury,
irritation, or arthritis. Mine appeared due to weightlifting stresses incurred in my younger days.
Mine has never completely gone away (most never do). However, in the absence of any acute or chronic
knee related irritation, it causes no problems. Any irritation or injury that causes my knee to
produce excess fluid will cause the cyst to swell and create pressure. In that sense, for me, it has
been a reliable "alarm" to let me know something is amiss. Remember that the cyst is probably an
indicator of some other problem. In most cases they are just an aggravation, in severe cases they
can create painful pressure or even rupture. Your wife's physician is taking the minimalist
route(sounds reasonable at this time). There are some more aggressive and invasive treatments out
there. Careful, some can be worse then just living with the cyst. Good luck.
