Hello all, I am new to the forum, but mot new to cycling. Sadly however I have been off the bike for quite awhile; but on the bright side I have decided to get back on after about a 20 year lay off. There was a time when I would ride 200-300 miles a week, at a 20+ mph clip. I am a bit concerned about how to restart up. I am now in my mid 50's and my body is not the same as it was then. To begin with I have a bit of discomfort in my back as a result of a spur. The chiropractor feels that cycling would be good for me, but the back underlines my point about age catching up with me.
I was hoping that I could get some specific advice as to how to begin getting back in shape. I know that it is going to take time, but perhaps we can talk about training regiments that are age specific.
Just as important as getting on the bike regularly or a bit more than quasi-regularly is having fun on the rides. For a fair percentage of new cyclists, if the riding is too tortuous, involves too much work, and isn't fun, they'll stop riding as much. That's often followed by them stopping completely and allowing their bike to gather dust in the garage. Cycling should be fun.
